Boiler Upgrade Scheme
What is the Boiler Upgrade Scheme?
The boiler upgrade scheme is a UK Government initiative that helps eligible property owners replace fossil fuel heating systems with low-carbon alternatives, such as air source or ground source heat pumps. The scheme offers grants towards the installation cost, making renewable heating more affordable.
Who is eligible?
You must meet certain criteria to qualify for a BUS grant
Property Type
Residential and small commercial properties in England and Wales. Owner-occupied, second homes and properties you rent out to tenants.
Self builds are also eligible provided they are built with your own money and never owned by a business.
Existing Heating System
You should be replacing a fossil fuel heating system such as gas, oil or LPG.
The grant cannot be used to replace an existing heat pump.
In the case of self builds it will be the first system installed.
Installer Accreditation
The system must be installed by a fully accredited installer registered with the MCS scheme.
How much could I claim?
Most eligible households can claim £7,500, while from 21st July 2026 some homes currently heated by oil/LPG may be eligible for an increased grant of £9,000.
As an added bonus, heat pump installations benefit from being exempt from VAT.
How do I claim?
It is an installer led scheme, meaning we handle everything for you.
Initial Application
Once you have decided a heat pump is for you we carry out an assessment of your home's suitability, design your system and apply for the BUS Grant. OFGEM will contact you to grant permission for us to act on your behalf.
Grant Approval
Once all the relevant information has been submitted the grant will be approved and a voucher issued to us ready for redemption once the installation is complete. The amount of the grant will be shown on your quote as a reduction of the overall cost of your installation.
Voucher Redemption
The system is installed, commissioned and registered with MCS, we then redeem the voucher, leaving the outstanding balance of your installation to be paid by you.
