Air source heat pumps (ASHPs) extract heat from the outside air to heat your home and hot water.

They are an incredibly efficient heating method as they transfer heat rather than generating it, efficiencies can exceed 300%, compared to around 90% for an A rated gas boiler.

They have the benefit of being compact, take up no space inside your property and are easier and more cost-effective to install than Ground Source Heat Pumps (GSHPs), although the Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI) is slightly lower.

ASHPs are eligible for the Government Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI).

The Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI) is a UK Government scheme aiming to encourage uptake of renewable heat technologies amongst householders, communities and businesses through financial incentives.

Domestic RHI is open to home-owners, self-builders, private landlords and registered providers of Social Housing.  RHI cash payments are made quarterly for seven years.  The amount you receive is dependant on the technology you install and the current tariff in place for that technology.

Commercial RHI is available to industry, businesses and public sector organisations.  Eligible installations receive quarterly payments over 20 years based on the amount of heat generated.
